What is Patinig (Vowels)?
Patinig refers to the vowels in the Filipino language. These are a, e, i, o, and u. Similar to the English language, there are 5 vowels in Filipino. Initially, there were only 3 vowels (a, i, and u) in the pre-colonial Baybayin script. Eventually, when the Philippines was colonized by the Spaniards and Americans, the language evolved and adapted the 5-vowel system, adding the vowels e and o to the modern Alpabetong Pilipino.
